Hello Tribe,
The month of April is a transitional month where we begin to see the signs of spring, new life, and new growth really begin to ramp up. As the Earth is beginning to pick up her pace and as life sprouts up from the ground, we too typically go through the "spring cleaning" and "busy body" phase of this season. Maybe you clean out your closets and switch out your winter wardrobe for your spring one. Maybe you switch up your diet to include more veggies and less fats as we tend to gravitate towards less heavy foods through the spring and summer months. Or maybe you are noticing an internal change, as your body can sense the increased daylight and the buzz of new life everywhere. In honor of April's awakening energy, why not take this concept to our practice and brush up on our technique and alignment. I have included a short and wonderful video on proper Down-Dog alignment. The instructor in the video is super knowledgeable and very articulate about placement and proper pose alignment. Given that most of you are stuck at home, take advantage if you have a mirror that you can watch yourself in. Check the alignment of your heels, legs, hips, spine, shoulders, and arms. Then close your eyes and feel the adjustments as you make them. Memorize the sensations in your muscles and let that translate into a new pattern in your mind. As a teacher, I feel hindered that I can't be with you all in the physical to guide you so this little homework assignment is the next best thing :) But please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions.
This week the donations for the Community Food Bank of NJ totaled $89! The finance yogi in me projected that once I lowered the donation amount, the total amount of funds to be donated would also be lower, but it wasn't! The logic and reason of numbers gets thrown out the window when it comes to charity and goodwill and that is such a powerful force and so inspiring. The power of compassion can move mountains, and it's amazing what change can occur when we let our hearts open. Thank you immensely for your donations. You are helping support many people in our community who may have never been in this situation before. It takes a strong person to ask for help and as fellow humans we must embrace this act with kindness.
